To Build One America, End the Game

Hanover, New Hampshire

  August 23, 2007

This election is unlike any we have faced before. The stakes are higher. And the challenges we face as a nation are greater than at any time in memory.

We as a nation must choose whether to do what America has always done in times like these — change direction and move boldly into the future for the sake of our children, if not for ourselves, or wander in the same stale direction we have traveled in our recent past.

The choice we must make is as important as it is clear.

It is a choice between looking back and looking forward.

A choice between the way we’ve always done it and the way we could do it if we dared.

A choice between corporate power and the power of democracy.

Between a corrupt and corroded system and a government that works for us again.

It is caution versus courage. Old versus new. Calculation versus principle.

It is the establishment elites versus the American people.

It is a choice between the failed compromises of the past and the bright possibilities of our future. Between resigning ourselves to Two Americas or fighting for the One America we all believe in.

As always, at these moments, the choice we make is not for us, but for our children and our great country. And this time, like no other time, the consequences for our children are truly profound. Continue reading →

Yaser Update

For those that might have heard the rumors that Yaser Alamoodi was “lost during deportation,” this is an update.

The rumors were slightly true. His family and friends expecting him, did not connect and heard of no updates for days. So yes, many were panicked. Here is an update from our good friend Markus who has been diligent keeping the communications up. I posted this to help with any of the rumors that might still be out there. Thanks Markus for this.

I just now spoke to Yaser’s father from Saudi Arabia.  His father told me, that Yaser’s plane had LANDED in Rome Italy, but due to technical

difficulties the plane was not able to go to Yemen.   So, Yaser is

back on an airplane, and Yaser is going back to Eloy Arizona!!!  Yaser will be leaving the United States again on September 4th to go back to Yemen.

We have finally located Yaser!!!!      Unfortunately, he’s back on his way to the Detention Center in Eloy Arizona.

Regards,

Markus

What a wonderful way to spend out tax dollars huh?

Rep. Trent Franks (AZ02) on Iraq

August 23, 2007

Dear Kevin:

I appreciate your letter regarding the conflict in Iraq and our national defense.  It is always good to hear from you on the many significant issues facing our great nation, and this in particular is one of inarguable importance.

The first and primary purpose of the federal government is to protect its citizens.  The President has shared with me his deep concern over our action in Iraq causing harm or the loss of human life.  I share his concern.  However, I also join him in recognizing the stark reality that the free world is engaged in a far greater war than the one seemingly being waged on the battlefield of Iraq.       Continue reading →

From the Front Page of Drudge Report: “Gore wins Democratic straw poll in Arizona…”

Drudge is known for rewording the headline and linking to the entire article that then spells a different tone.  Interesting that he took this small article in the Republic and made it appear that this was an official poll for the state.

Here is the article in full.

ACLU of Arizona to Challenge Ban on Sale of Anti-War Shirts

The request by Plaintiff Dan Frazier for a Preliminary Injunction in the case of Frazier v. Boomsma, et al, Case No. 07-CV-8040, will be heard by U.S. District Court Judge Neil V. Wake at 2:00 pm on Thursday, August 23, 2007, in the federal courthouse in Phoenix.

Dan Frazier is the one scheduled witness. He is asking that the Court stay the effective date of the Senate Bill 1014 until a determination has been made as to the constitutionality of this legislation in this lawsuit. The ACLU of Arizona is representing Dan Frazier and, as seen in the below Motion, maintains that the Senate Bill clearly violates Mr. Frazier’s First Amendment rights of free speech and expression, and is an attempt by the Arizona Governor and legislature to keep the human toll of the Iraq War out of the public discourse.

Read the motion here. Memo here.

A new Ajax/Web 2.0 Website to Shut Down Gitmo

Sign a brief pledge that you’re not down with torture or the existance of Guantanamo Bay detention facility, and one of the pixels in the disturbing photo that represents the prison fades to black.

That pixel is yours forever; your name pops up in a little balloon over it.

Head on over, tear a pixel down, and forward to your friends: http://www.tearitdown.org

Pretty slick.
