Disturbing New Photos From Abu Ghraib

As an expert witness in the defense of an Abu Ghraib guard who was court-martialed, psychologist Philip Zimbardo had access to many of the images of abuse that were taken by the guards themselves. For a presentation at the TED conference in Monterey, California, Zimbardo assembled some of these pictures into a short video. Wired.com obtained the video from Zimbardo’s talk, and is publishing some of the stills from that video here. Many of the images are explicit and gruesome, depicting nudity, degradation, simulated sex acts and guards posing with decaying corpses. Viewer discretion is advised.

What does a Republican candidate from Missouri’s 9th District look like?

No platform. No experience. No clue. But… he did take social studies! I am serious… this is HIS defense when asked about experience. Don’t believe it? See here directly from his mouth:

More about this candidate on Kos.

Hat-tip to fanfrickingtastic for finding this little diddy to lighten my day.

Tucson Death Penalty - No Closure for Victims Family

Out of Tucson is another case of a victim’s family member not wanting the death penalty because they want to get on with their life. The prosecutor, Toni Schneider must want to play god more then seek justice for the victims family. Article here: The Tucson Citizen, February 13, 2008

“I don’t know why (prosecutors) don’t plead it out to life without parole,” Schneider said. “Hey, guys, bite the bullet. Things have changed. Let’s finish it off and not cost the state any more money.”  At Nordstrom’s sentencing, Schneider said, she vowed that her life would not be about him.

Celebrating Life

The last 5 years plus, I have been campaigning full time. From Alfredo’s ‘02, Kucinich in ‘04, Cegelis, Studebaker, Winograd, Mfume, Edwards, Williams and Young in ‘06 to campaigning to denounce torture for Amnesty in ‘07. I have been on the road nonstop.

I saw an opportunity to get off this path and take advantage of a start-up opportunity in the Bay area in December. I was excited by this opportunity, took it… and learned a lot. But one thing I learned… the pace and stress was just the same. Void of a cause other then sustainability for myself, life has handed me an important lesson–life exists outside of work. Work for a cause… work for you, all good reasons to work. But work should not define you. Work should complement who you are and help shape the world you want. That said, I am celebrating life and returning home to Arizona.

I have great hopes for BlueDynamic and the direction we plan to take it. We already have clients coming in (both politically and business.) I will be excited to return home to my roots. I look forward to seeing many of you on the campaign trails soon. But know… I will not allow myself to put life second to a career. My life is first and foremost.

Celebrating life with friends and family,

Kevin

P.S. Kudos to my old gang at PDA for the win last night! Edwards was one of the campaigns I mentioned on before that I worked on in ’06. Way to go Donna and PDA!
