This is an excellent online tool with which to obtain detailed information on issues of interest to our community. As a longtime community advocate in matters of education, I am extremely concerned that the state department of education would attempt to remove local control from residents who legally elected their representatives to the Roosevelt School Board because they believe they can effectively perform their duties. Having followed the issues at this particular school district for several years, I can attest to the fact that the problems at Roosevelt were created by the past board members and people they employed, and not by the present board. The manipulative and unjustified action taking place right now by legislators and Tom Horne to gain control is the most underhanded political vendetta I’ve ever witnessed. It is purely personally motivated and even though I do not live in the Roosevelt district, I recognize this attempted action as a very dangerous precedent that takes away residents’ rights to choose their representatives and their input to their children’s education. If Tom Horne believes the AZ Dept. of Education can make better decisions than local board members chosen by the citizens, then why didn’t he ask the state to step in and take over Paradise Valley when the PV Board of which he was president was found to have 13 ELL violations that had to be removed or PV would lose millions of dollars!
Esther..t hanks for this! You should leave this comment at azschoolworks.org
