In McCain’s Own Words…

Richard Files over 5,000 signatures

Gerald Richard, Democratic candidate for County Attorney, has qualified for the September 2nd primary ballot.  Richard has filed over five-thousand petition signatures, more than twice the required minimum of 2,338.

Richard says he will emphasize his 22 years of law enforcement experience in his campaign to unseat Andrew Thomas as Maricopa County Attorney.  “I am the only candidate who has actually prosecuted felony criminal cases before a jury,” said Richard.  “I am the only Democrat who has effectively and successfully managed a large law enforcement agency the size of the county attorney’s office.” Continue reading →

Un-needed Drama: Blogging the Convention

We over at BlueDynamic will be blogging the convention as well as Ted over at Rum, Romanism, and Rebellion. I have been impressed with how the DNCC has been handling these convention credentials. We as bloggers are gaining unprecedented access. I know many folks in the MSM that are actually envious of the access we are being allowed. Kudos needs to go to the folks at DNCC on this process. BlueDynamic will be utilizing live streaming video technology to interview our AZ delegates, and we will be working close with the state party to make sure all Arizona Democrats get to experience what the delegates are experiencing on the floor.

Despite this great experience, Kos has his ego in a bit of a fit. He decided to take this issue and make it personal toward Aaron and call individuals out in a blog versus talk about the system.

Simply put, we are getting unprecedented access. State Parties, unlike you would be led to believe, had some consultation, but there was no “hand off.” Bloggers are proactive on the ground, and like Ted and I want to work with the state party to maximize communication efforts. To think this was top down from the state parties is just bunk. I take the DNCC and the state parties at their word as they have been very transparent about it throughout the process, and I have been talking to both sides throughout the process.

Ok, I am calling you out Ted, your thoughts on yet another false Kos-attack? Help me out here brother. I for one feel this time was much smoother and open then 2004, what has been your experience?

My hats off to the DNCC for attempting to make order out of the disorderly ;)

Richard to Thomas: “man-up” to Arpaio

Speaking with Gerald Richard’s campaign earlier on this whole Sheriff Joe, Andrew Thomas versus the media matter. This is what I was told:

Gerald Richard believes Andrew Thomas is violating his oath of office by encouraging and participating in a full-scale assault on the first amendment rights of the Arizona media and the public’s right to know.

Some background for my out of state readers:

Through a special prosecutor he appointed, Thomas authorized the arrests of the publisher and the owner of the New Times because of stories critical of Sheriff Joe Arpaio.  Thomas claimed the two men violated state law by publishing Arpaio’s home address in the on-line versions of the stories, even though that address is publicly available through a number of other websites.  Thomas also sought notes, e-mails and other research related to the stories, plus detailed information on everyone who had visited the New Times website over the past four years.  The newspaper called it “a breathtaking abuse of the U.S. Constitution.” Such actions by the County’s top prosecutor should send a chill down the spine of freedom-loving people everywhere.

Ward Connerly and his anti-equal opportunity desires

A man by the name of Ward Connerly wants to put his initiative on the Arizona ballot this November–an initiative which is designed to dismantle all of Arizona’s equal opportunity programs that address race and gender barriers in public education, public employment and public contracting.

Right now, Connerly is trying to get the Arizona Legislature to pass HCR 2041. If it passes, Connerly would get his anti-equal opportunity initiative on the ballot this November “for free”-meaning he would not be required to gather the 300,000 signatures that are needed to get on the Arizona ballot.

Connerly is a former Board of Regent in California who works to eliminate equal opportunity programs in states around the country. He has already destroyed equal opportunity in California, Michigan, and Washington. This year, he has targeted Arizona.

Why should we fight HCR 2041? Continue reading →
