The song that changed my life

Point of personal privilege.

I am taking a step back a bit from current news and sharing with you the single most powerful (yet simple) song I have ever heard. This song was in the early 90’s. It was when I was just coming out of hanging out with some gangs in Glendale . If I had not heard this song, connected to the depth of the lyrics and held on to every word… I might be in a different place. This one song helped connect me with compassion and the need to work toward a greater good that my parents had taught me indirectly.

I have been doing a lot of self reflection as of late… A LOT… and I wanted to share with you this song, as it still means the world to me. This guy was 16 when he wrote this. This is about an open heart…

if i told you he was your brother
you’d reminisce then you would go about your day
if said you oughta give him some of your water
you’d shake your canteen and walk away
and the perception taht divides you from him, is a lie
for some reason you never asked why
this is not a black white world
you can’t afford to believe in your side
this is not a black and white world
to be alive i say the colors must swirl
and i believe that maybe today
we will all get to appreciate
the beauty of grey
if i told you she was your mother
would you analyze the situation and be gone?
if i said you oughta give her some of your water
your eyes would light up like the dawn
and the perception that divides you from her, is a lie
for some reason we never asked why
this is not a black white world
you can’t afford to believe in your side
this is not a black and white world
to be alive i say the colors must swirl
and i believe that maybe today
we will all get to appreciate
the beauty of grey
the beauty of grey
the beauty of grey
the beauty of grey
look into your eyes
no daylight
new day now

this is not a black and white world
to be alive i say the colors must swirl
and i believe that maybe today
we will appreciate the beauty of grey
this is not a black and white world
to be alive i say the colors must swirl
and i believe that maybe today
we will all get appreciate
yes we will all get to appreciate
the beauty of grey

Live SpidelBlog Session

Better video quality next time. This was done last minute:

New Technology & Travels

Sorry I have not posted much on the SpidelBlog much.  We kicked off the PAC on Wednesday, and brought on a new client this week via BlueDynamic, so it has been kinda nuts. I am leaving tomorrow to New Orleans, LA for one of our clients to prepare for a national media campaign during the General Election around the issues of Gulf Coast Recovery.

During this past week and while in NOLA I have played and will be playing with some new technology for both SpidelBlog and BlueDynamic. You saw the podcast live on Wednesday night. Not the best quality, but the concept is there. I will be trying to podcast live from NOLA to test the cell phone networks on quality. The goal is to create real time high quality video for our future projects (such as blogging live from the floor at both DNCC and RNC.)

You can see some of this work on the media section of BlueDynamic, but we have a lot more to upload and play around with. You will start to see some of this technology pop up on political sites that are our clients. So stay tuned. Until then… consider SpidelBloe my beta blog to test it all out :)

You will see some of this stuff while I am in NOLA the next few days. Feel free to comment on the quality and provide some feedback overall.

Peace,

Kevin

Live podcast of tonight’s “AZ School Works” launch event

See here at 6:45pm AZ time.

On the road again…

We are putting together a GREAT statewide tour of the Education PAC in the next month. I will be back traveling the state soon. Also, some great clients we just signed on… so I will be back in DC and drinking beers at Axis SOON as well as NOLA. If you are in those areas… hit me up. Would love to catch up!

The New Project

For those who have been following… I am back in Phoenix. The new business, BlueDynamic, is already creating a buzz. I am proud to be one of five very talented partners. Combined we have a diverse background and already rounding up a GREAT list of clients. Stay tuned for some interesting news from www.bluedynamic.com.

Until next time…

Celebrating Life

The last 5 years plus, I have been campaigning full time. From Alfredo’s ‘02, Kucinich in ‘04, Cegelis, Studebaker, Winograd, Mfume, Edwards, Williams and Young in ‘06 to campaigning to denounce torture for Amnesty in ‘07. I have been on the road nonstop.

I saw an opportunity to get off this path and take advantage of a start-up opportunity in the Bay area in December. I was excited by this opportunity, took it… and learned a lot. But one thing I learned… the pace and stress was just the same. Void of a cause other then sustainability for myself, life has handed me an important lesson–life exists outside of work. Work for a cause… work for you, all good reasons to work. But work should not define you. Work should complement who you are and help shape the world you want. That said, I am celebrating life and returning home to Arizona.

I have great hopes for BlueDynamic and the direction we plan to take it. We already have clients coming in (both politically and business.) I will be excited to return home to my roots. I look forward to seeing many of you on the campaign trails soon. But know… I will not allow myself to put life second to a career. My life is first and foremost.

Celebrating life with friends and family,

Kevin

P.S. Kudos to my old gang at PDA for the win last night! Edwards was one of the campaigns I mentioned on before that I worked on in ’06. Way to go Donna and PDA!

30 seconds on my new project

There is no rhyme or reason for this blog anymore… I post about the politics of the day… some projects I am working on… and the rare original rant. So I figured what the heck… I will post a little video on this current project I am leading. This video was produced by the good folks at Morgan Dorado. It highlights one of nearly 200 teachers we have recruited for three Borders stores in Sacramento for the month of February. Yes… nearly 200 teachers!

More to come on this community education project soon, until then… let this wet your whistle.

I am still alive

Well kinda. I am knee deep in a Feb 1st launch for a start-up I signed on to. Plus BlueDynamic is ramping up, and of course the campaign stuff. A lot to talk about… but little time to write. With the move, new career, new projects, new life, new friends, and new life benchmarks there is a lot to reflect on. I am alive however and loving this community building project for Borders Books and Music as well as the BlueDynamic gig. Stay tuned… after this launch and after Super-Tuesday I will be back on the radar. I am not sure if anyone even reads this at this point… but there is some sanity to writing to my space on the web.

Are you alive?
